Product Review: iTunes 9
I know I already talked about iTunes 9 during my keynote review, and I still haven’t tested out iTunes LPs and iTunes Extras, but I still wanted to get my thoughts out. There are 3 killer features to iTunes 9 in my opinion.
1) Home sharing: This is my favorite feature of iTunes 9: a legal way to share media between 5 authorized computers with almost no setup. Granted, it only works with 5 authorized computers, but its sooo cool. And this is not streaming stuff, its downloading and keeping it. It works with music, videos, apps, podcasts, basically anything thats in your library.
2) New layout for the iTunes store: Another cool feature, this one less helpful unless you are buying stuff constantly. The iTunes store has a brand new look with a navbar at the top of the window for getting to all the different categories super-quickly. I like the new layout, but it takes time to get used to it.
3) Improved syncing. App management for iPod Touch and iPhone is easier, as well as managing content you always want synced in addition to the auto-syncing. I’ve been waiting for this for a while, as have many others.
Overall, iTunes 9 is a good upgrade, and its free, so go get it at apple.com if you haven’t yet!
