“It’s only Rock and Roll” Keynote Summary
I am going to keep this feature as a regular thing the day after a keynote happens. I am going to recap the 5 most important things that happened yesterday in a list without a paticular order.
- The most important thing (and the only thing that actually mattered for the stock price) was when Steve Jobs walked out at the beginning. Steve gave the keynote, yes! He thanked the person who gave him his new liver and also asked everyone to be as generous as that person was. For some reason, the stock price went down anyway, but that is probably because of the underwhelming announcements.
- Next, iTunes 9 was introduced, and it has my favorite thing ever: Home Sharing. Now I can finally share my music between my computers through iTunes. And keep the music, not just stream it. My netbook is so happy that it has my music and TV shows now. Its also more full, but whatever. Also included is a new iTunes store layout, along with extra content for select Albums (iTunes LPs) and Movies (iTunes Extras).
- The new iPod touch was announced, and it doesn’t even have the camera. What a terrible suprise. It barely has had any changes, but storage upgrades and price cuts were announced. The 32GB is $300, while the new 64GB is $400.
- The shuffle got colors and a new 2GBÂ model for $59.
- The nano got the big upgrades of the day. A video camera (no still photos for some reason), a microphone, a speaker, a pedometer, and an FM radio (wow) with live pause (stop the radio and resume from where you left off, basically DVR for radio). The camera was no suprise, but the radio blew my socks off. I never expected an iPod to have a radio, and if any ever got one I thought for sure it would be the touch. Also, the 16GB is 20 dollars cheaper. The colors are nicer (somehow) and they (along with everything else) shipped yesterday.
Overall, I thought the event was good. I was especially happy with Steve, iTunes 9, and the Nano. Lets hope the touch gets the camera soon though…

Just fyi, the reason the nano doesn’t take stills is because honestly it’s not a good enough camera to take passable stills. Low quality video is more forgiving.

I know, but they still could have let you do it. Low quality pictures are better than no pictures at all, at least in my opinion. Btw thanks for being the FIRST COMMENT on my blog!
